The world got a glimpse of an aggressive Sri Lankan batsman when Chamara Kapugedera smashed 131 for the Sri Lanka U/19 team in 2004-05. Kapugedera made the most of the opportunity given to him as he also made a well crafted 70 against the strong New Zealand A side. These and many more superb performance meant that “Kapu” had made it into the Sri Lankan National squad at the age of 18 against India, before he had to pull out of the series due to an injury. But it was in 2006 when Sri Lanka toured Australia that he impressed one and all with his stroke play and composure. He also had a short stint at the top of Sri Lanka's batting order when he scored his maiden ODI half century against Pakistan in 2006 and soon after got to his first Test fifty against England to help square the series for Sri Lanka. Kapugedera was also a part of the IPL Cricket extravaganza in India when he played for the Chennai Super Kings, the runners-up of the first edition of the tournament.
