Momentum Building up
In the 10 games played in this IPL tournament, teams have been doing pretty well as far as adjusting to the format is concerned. However, if a home team doctors a pitch at a later stage in the tournament, it would be interesting to see how the players perform on them.
So far, 6 games have been won by teams batting second; however this doesn't give a clear picture at all. The teams have been unable to post 200 or more runs on a consistent basis, which has made the chase achievable. Only four times in the tournament up to now, a team managed to surpass the score of 200, out of which only one was chased successfully by the Rajasthan Royals against Hyderabad Deccan Chargers.
The saddest part of this tournament has been the lack of opportunity given to domestic players from India. The overseas players, instead, have been getting a better exposure. The batsmen haven’t got enough occasions to prove themselves; this, however, has not been the case with bowlers.
So far, all the venues have been used up and Deccan has lost both its games at home, one to a poor start and another to a last over slam bang by Warne.
Let’s have a look at the top batsmen and bowlers in the tournament, at this point:
