Kotla crowd epitomises spirit of Indian cricket

It was not a happy tour of the South for Pune. We lost two matches, which I believe we could have won. In Bangalore, we didn’t defend one big over while fielding, and in Chennai, we were left in search of that one big over while batting.

This format gives you no breathing space and there is no chance to ponder over spilled milk. This is something this young team has to learn quickly. We’re getting into the middle stages of the tournament and I don’t want these close matches to haunt us at the end. So, it’s time to pull up our socks.

Our next halt is Delhi and we have to give ourselves a good shake-up before we take on Viru & Co in their den. The IPL is a strange format — long-term colleagues become opponents and fiercest rivals become friends.

Whenever I come to the Ferozshah Kotla, it reminds me of Anil Kumble’s 10-wicket haul. This ground and crowd has always been dear to me.

My advice to youngsters would be to play with pride and their heads up. Never let fear score over your talent. The Delhi crowd epitomises the true spirit of Indian cricket.

Speaking of the Daredevils, one has to talk about KP’s innings. It was a single-handed effort after the top order got out cheaply. Playing in the sub-continent has helped KP to adjust his game in these conditions. But, he will be tested on tracks which will be low and slow, and the ball will stop and come on to the bat.

Delhi are a rejuvenated side this year. They are a good mix of foreign and Indian players, but even they could have had a bad day had the chance provided by KP been utilised by the Chargers. That would have tested Delhi’s character.
