'We won’t roll over'

To be on the receiving end while watching history being made can be a painful experience, but to me surprisingly it was a delight because that is what the gentleman named Sachin Tendulkar is all about.

I first came across the enigma in 1996 when I played my first Test match against India at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The reception Tendulkar received at the stadium, which gathers India’s biggest cricketing crowd; it was simply awesome and it also made me realise the persona this great player has been for decades. Nothing seems to have changed over the years. Instead more and more records are flowing from his blazing magnum. I am also sure that this is going to continue for another couple of years.

The event during the second One-Day International in Gwalior clearly made it a no-contest, though no one seemed to complain. Can you? Especially when somebody walks away with things single-handedly like that!

So, we now head to Ahmedabad for the final match of series and though we have lost the Micromax Mobile Cup series 0-2, our focus shall now remain to look into our basics. We shall individually be looking at our performances. The aim will be to indeed win the last ODI and not be rolled over.

With eyes on the 2011 World Cup in the sub-continent and as a preparation towards it, there may be some changes in our combinations in the game at Motera. Personally, I won’t retard into a shell to say as it was, based upon my performances for the first two games. I will be looking to make an impact and introspect. I have played in Ahmedabad before during the Champions Trophy in 1996 where we won against West Indies and hence some of us are well aware of the condition that prevails there.

It would be interesting to see how the pitch would be and we shall take a call on how to go about it. India on the other hand would be resting key players for the last ODI in Ahmedabad, so we would be viewed favourites. With Sachin and Sehwag not playing we would definitely exploit the substitutes. So basically, I see the match to be played on a very keen note, especially by us, as we are eager to win the last match and you can catch all the action on Neo Sports, live and exclusively.
