Promote Yusuf at the top of the order

The young Indian team is on a roll. It’s really fantastic that we have secured a win at Baroda thus wining the series. However, it is again very important to win the remaining matches of the series. A winning momentum and attitude is very difficult to maintain and this is what is required if the boys are aiming to excel in the forthcoming World Cup.

Yet, having said that, we also need to try out something different but in trying so we should be able to maintain a balance. Whatever skipper Gautam Gambhir has tried thus far in the series has worked out very well. Now, he and the team think-tank would do well to try out the others, who haven’t got a chance and are waiting to explode. I for one believe that Yusuf Pathan if being pursued with, should be encouraged to open.

The tall and swashbuckling player has done it before, first in South Africa for the World Twenty20 and then again most recently against Pakistan in England where he began with a six. Even for the Deodhar Trophy matches where he opened and with great success for the West Zone. He will surely excel for the Indian team and the rest as that they say will take care of itself. I mean, it is not about changing or playing with the player, but it is good to try out a player like Yusuf, for uncertainties like a truncated match, where he is usually promoted top the order and given the license to have a go at things. The remaining games could be an ideal form to test his abilities.

Then there are some other exciting talents in the side whom the selectors need to study like Saurabh Tiwary, Praveen Kumar and Parthiv Patel. We have only two One-Day Internationals before the scene moves to South Africa. Such an opportunity of trying as many as possible won’t be there again, since we are now playing at home.

The New Zealanders, meanwhile, are trying to find the right combine. I am sure, Gambhir and Co will still try and negate all their ideas and aim for a clean sweep beginning with the Bangalore clash tonight which I hope would be more challenging and competitive unlike the earlier ones which were more or less one-sided.
