India and New Zealand clash in the first one-day international at Napier on Tuesday. Stay tuned to this space for milestones and statistical highlights as and when they unfold!

  • The New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori (236 ODI matches) is playing his 100th ODI on “home” soil. He is only the second Kiwi after Stephen Fleming (105) to play 100 plus ODI’s at home for New Zealand.
  • MS Dhoni is playing his 47th ODI as wicket-keeper/captain. This is now the most by any keeper/captain in ODIs. Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower and England’s Alec Stewart have played dual roles in 46 and 39 matches respectively.
  • Sachin Tendulkar (20, on 8) became the only third batsman in Limited over cricket history to aggregate over 20000 runs. In all List A matches, he now has 20012 runs in 510 matches. Only Graham Gooch (22211 runs in 614 matches) and Graeme Hick (22059 in 651 matches) have made more runs than Tendulkar in List A matches. For the record, Tendulkar now needs only 2200 runs to overtake Gooch as the top run-getter in this version of the game.
  • The 69 run 1st wicket partnership between Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar bettered the previous best opening stand by India at Napier. Ajay Jadeja & Navjot Singh Sidhu had put on 66 for the 1st wicket at this venue 25-3-1994.
  • MS Dhoni has batted at number three on 13 occasions now in ODIs. He has two hundreds and four fifties in this spot. He now has scored 819 runs @ 74.45 in this position. Interestingly, on all the occasions when Dhoni has batted at number 3 and scored at least a fifty - India have won the match!
  • Suresh Raina recorded his 10th ODI fifty. It comes in his first ODI appearance against New Zealand. He becomes the fifth Indian to score a fifty in his first appearance against the Kiwis on New Zealand soil. The others being Rahul Dravid (123, at Taupo 9-1-99), Sourav Ganguly (60,at Taupo,9-1-99), GR Viswanath (56, at Christchurch,21-2-76), Kapil Dev (50, at Auckland,14-2-81)
  • The 100-plus run partnership (110) between MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina was the 4th such to be scored by India on New Zealand soil. However it is the first by India for the 4th wicket. The previous highest partnership for the 4th wicket by India on New Zealand soil was 99 by Tendulkar and Sanjay Manjrekar against Zimbabwe at Hamilton in 7-3-92 (World Cup match).
  • MS Dhoni (84 not out) bettered the previous highest score by an Indian captain on New Zealand soil. Previously, Mohammad Azharuddin had scored 63 at Christchurch (19-1-2022).
  • Suresh Raina’s 66 is also the highest score made by an Indian left handed batsman in New Zealand. The previous highest being Sourav Ganguly who had made 60 twice at Taupo (9-1-99) and Christchurch (19-1-99) respectively.
  • India's total of 273-4 in just 38 overs is by far its highest total on New Zealand soil. India's previous best was 257-5 in 50 overs came at Taupo on 9-1-1999.
  • Brendon McCullum playing in his 149th ODI match, registered his 10th duck in ODIs. Incidentally, it was his second duck against India. His only other duck came at Auckland on 11-1-2003, when he was run-out without facing a ball!
  • The three ducks equals the most by Kiwi batsmen in an ODI match against India. This has occurred on three other occasions - 1986 (at Sharjah) and 2002-03 (at Wellington and Auckland).
  • India's win by 53 runs, albeit by DL method, is its biggest win on New Zealand soil against the home team. Incidentally, India had beaten Zimbabwe by 55 runs at Hamilton during the 1992 World Cup.
  • MS Dhoni received his tenth man of the match award of his career in 131 matches. It was his ninth for Team India. He also had one MoM award for Asia XI.
