India and New Zealand clash in the first Twenty20 international at the AMI Stadium in Christchurch on Wednesday. Stay tuned to this space for LIVE milestones and statistical highlights as and when they unfold!


  • With the Pathan (Yusuf & Irfan) and McCullum (Brendon & Nathan) brothers both playing it will be the second time in the history of T20 internationals that a pair of brothers are part of the playing eleven of both teams. The only other instance being when the Morkel’s (Albie & Morne) and McCullum’s (Brendon & Nathan) played for SA and NZ at Durban on 19-9-07. 
  • When India scored 19-0 in the first over of the match, it was the most runs scored of the first over of a T20 international. The previous best was 16-0 by Australia vs South Africa at Johannesburg 24-2-2006.
  • When he dismissed Yuvraj Singh, Daniel Vettori claimed his 20th T20I wicket. He now equals Pakistan’s Umar Gul (20 wkts) as the highest wicket taker in T20Is. 
  • Vettori’s dismissal of Yuvraj Singh was also the first time in 20 wickets that he has dismissed a batsman lbw in T20 internationals. 
  • Incidentally Yuvraj Singh became the first Indian batsman to be dismissed “LBW” in a T20 international. 
  • Suresh Raina recorded his highest score in T20I. his previous best was 35 vs Sri Lanka at Colombo 10-2-2009. 
  • Suresh Raina became the 5th Indian to record a fifty in T20Is. He is the third left hander to do so. The others being Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh. Incidentally the last Indian to score a T20I fifty was Gautam Gambhir vs Australia at Mumbai (BS) 20-10-2007. Ten fifties have now been scored by Indian batsmen in this version of the game.
  • India recorded 13 sixes in the innings, which is now the most hit by India in a single innings in T20Is. India’s previous best was 11 sixes against England at Durban 19-9-2007. 
  • India’s 13 sixes is also the most sixes hit in a T20I against New Zealand. Australia had hit 12 sixes against the hosts in the first ever T20I at Auckland,17-2-2005.
  • The 8th wicket partnership of 61 between Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh is now the highest for this wicket in T20 internationals. They bettered the previous record of 59* also held by the Indian pair of Irfan and Yusuf Pathan vs Sri Lanka at Colombo 10-2-09.


  • Martin Guptill (41) recorded his highest score in T20Is so far. He had made a “duck” in the only other T20I he has played vs Aus, Sydney, 15-2-2022
  • Twenty four sixes have been hit by both teams in the match, the most in T20 internationals. The previous best was 20 sixes by India and Australia at Durban 22-9-07
  • Brendon McCullum when on 43 became the first batsmen in T20Is to score 500 runs. Incidentally McCullum was also the first batsman to reach the 400 run mark in T20I’s. 
  • Brendon McCullum recorded his third fifty in T20I. Incidentally his scores in the last three T20I’s have all been above 50.McCullum now equals the record of Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya who also scored 3 fifties in a row between 22-12-06 & 15-9-07. 
  • This is the only second T20I played on New Zealand soil where the team batting second ended up winning the match Of the 9 T20Is played five have been won by the team batting first with 2 ending in a tie 
  • New Zealands total of 166-8 is now the highest total chased to win a match on New Zealand soil. The previous highest chased to win was 116-5 by New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Auckland 26-12-2006. 
  • India have now lost both their T20I played against New Zealand
