  • The Indian eleven for this Test is the most experienced side to play Test cricket. The side includes Tendulkar 153 matches, Kumble 132 matches, Dravid 128 matches, Ganguly 112 matches and Laxman 99 matches. Since the recent 1st Test vs Sri Lanka at Colombo (SSC) India has taken over the mantle from World XI (vs Aus at Sydney, October 2005) of being the most experienced side in Test cricket
  • This is the 30th Test match to be played at the Ferozshah Kotla Ground. The ground becomes the second Indian venue to host 30 or more Tests. Only the Eden Gardens, Kolkatta (35 Tests) has hosted more.

  • Virender Sehwag now has 1179 runs in the calendar year 2008. He equals South Africa's Graeme Smith as the highest run scorer on the calendar year so far. Both Sehwag and Smith have played 11 Tests each. The only other year Sehwag crossed thousand runs in a calendar year was in 2004 when he scored 1141 in 12 Tests.
  • India's bad luck with the 1st wicket continues at the Ferozshah Kotla. The last time the Indian openers registered a fifty stand was when S Ramesh and VVS Laxman put up 88 vs Pakistan in 1998-99. Since then India have had opening stands of 15, 27, 3, 24, 3, 2, 12, 15, 2, and now 1 at the Kotla ie: 104 runs in 10 innings @ 10.4
  • Tendulkar now has 90 scores on 50 or more (51 fifties and 39 hundreds). He now equals Alan Border (63 fifties and 27 hundreds) who also has 90 scores of 50 or more in Tests.
  • Tendulkar has now been involved in 68 century partnerships. He now equals Ricky Ponting who also has 68. Only Rahul Dravid (72) has been involved in more century stands.
  • Gautham Gambhir reached his century with a six. It was the eleventh instance of an Indian batsman reaching a hundred of a six. Seven other Indian cricketers (Umrigar, Kapil Dev, Tendulkar, Azharuddin, Dravid, Sehwag and Pathan) have done so before Gambhir. Tendulkar for the record has done it on 4 occassions.
  • Gautam Gambhir became the second Delhi cricketer after MAK Pataudi to score a hundred at the Ferozshah Kotla. Pataudi has scored 2 hundreds at the Kotla (203* vs Eng, 63-64 & 113 vs NZ, 64-65).
  • Gautam Gambhir also becomes the second Indian to score back to back hundreds against Australia in Tests. Vijay Hazare scored 116 and 145 each innings of a match vs Australia at Adelaide in 1947-48 while Gambhir scored 104 in the second innings of the Mohali Test following it up with a hundred in the first innings of the Delhi Test.
  • India's score of 296-3 is now the third highest score made on the first day of a Test at the Kotla. India made 340-3 by India against Zimbabwe in 1992-93 and 299-3 vs West Indies in 1983-84
