STATISTICAL HIGHLIGHTS TEST 4, DAY 1

 

  • The Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, becomes the 99th venue to host a Test match. It also becomes India’s 20th Test venue. This stadium is now the second Test venue in the city of Nagpur. Chennai and Lucknow are the other Indian cities that have two Test grounds. Mumbai being the only city to host Tests in three grounds.
     
  • The VCA stadium also becomes the third Indian venue to host a Test match as the first ever match to be played on it. The other two being University Ground, Lucknow (Ind vs Pak, Oct 1952) and Gujarat Stadium, Ahmedabad (Ind vs WI, Nov 1983). India lost the Test on both these occassions
     
  • Australia are playing their 700th Test match. They become the second Test playing nation to do so. England with 877 Tests have played the most.
     
  • Laxman is the first Indian and the tenth cricketer overall not to captain his team despite playing 100 Tests - the other nine being Shane Warne, Mark Waugh, Glenn McGrath, Ian Healy, David Boon, Justin Langer, Graham Thorpe, Muttiah Muralitharan and Chaminda Vaas
     
  • By playing in 100 Tests Laxman has now played the most Tests played by a Hyderabad cricketer. Mohammad Azhar had appeared in 99 Tests
     
  • Jason Krejza and M Vijay Krishna become the 403rd and 260th players to represent Australia and India respectively in Tests.
     
  • Vijay is also the 24th player from the state of Tamil Nadu to play Test cricket for India. The last to do so being Dinesh Karthik. 
     
  • Rahul Dravid has not scored a duck since he scored “0” for the World XI vs Australia at Sydney 2005-06. His last duck for India in a Test was vs Bangladesh at Dhaka 2004-05. 
     
  • By playing a Test at the VCA stadium Sachin Tendulkar has played in 56 different venues. The closest to this being Mohammad Azharuddin who has played at 48 grounds, while Kapil Dev and Inzamam ul Haq have played at 47 each. 
     
  • By scoring his 52nd Test fifty Sachin Tendulkar now has 91 scores of 50 or more in Test cricket (39 hundreds + 52 fifties). He goes past Alan Border who has 90 (27 hundreds, 63 fifties)
     
  • Tendulkar and Laxman have now been involved in 6 century stands. They also have 11 half century stands. 
     
  • Tendulkar now has been involved in 69 century stands. He went past Australia’s ricky Ponting has 68. Rahul Dravid with 72 however still has been involved in the most century stands 
     
  • When on 56 VVS Laxman recorded the highest score by an Indian batsman in his 100th Test. Kapil Dev 55 (vs Pak, Karachi 89-90) , Tendulkar 54 (vs Eng at Oval,2002) and Dravid 52 are the others to score a fifty in their 100th Test. 
     
  • Sachin Tendulkar’s century was his

  • Tendulkar’s hundred was his 17th at home. He now has the most hundreds on Indian soil. Sunil Gavaskar with 16 and Azharuddin with 13 are the others with maximum hundreds.
