Double dealing young guns’

Cricket is as much fun on the field as it is off it. Building on that premise, we here at Cricketnirvana.com are kicking off the section "Truth or Gossip?" that brings to you stories that we have heard from the players, administrators or and everyone else in the business.

Stories that cannot have bylines. Stories as they happen without the 'on the record' quote. But as they say in journalism, your best sources are always unnamed. We bring you all the backstage drama and happening. You be the judge - decide what is the truth and what is gossip.

Double dealing ‘young guns’

India’s ODI captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni may claim that he has enormous amount of respect for senior players Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly, but what he speaks about them in selection meetings is completely diverse. He is quite a shrewd character.

The wicketkeeper batsman has been livid with Ganguly’s approach for a while now. Last year, for instance, after India narrowly lost to Australia in the Nagpur ODI, Dhoni and even his buddy deputy Yuvraj Singh rushed to the selectors, requesting them to get rid of the Bengal batsman.

The duo at the helm of India’s ODI set-up labelled Ganguly 'selfish' for the way he batted in that game. Shocking, isn’t it!

That stuck in the selectors' minds and the next time they met Dravid lost his place. Then Ganguly was next on the chopping block. Dhoni is surely out to get the team he wants!
