Thilan Samaraweera is a right-handed middle order batsman from Colombo. He started out as an off-spinner but his Test century on debut against India helped him build out a reputation as a specialist Test batsman. A gritty and well organised player, Samaraweera cemented his place in the Test team between 2001-2005. Then came inconsistency, which saw the right-hander being dropped from the team. He was recalled in the Test squad in 2007.
