Chris Tremlett has a rich tradition of cricket in his family, with his grandfather Maurice Tremlett having played first class cricket and Test cricket for England, and his father narrowly missing selection for the National side.

However, the tall and strapping Chris Tremlett did manage to make it the Test and the ODI team, on the basis of some very strong performances at the first class level, having taken more than 400 combined wickets – at first class and List A level – at very healthy averages of 27 and 25 respectively.

He then made his ODI debut in the year 2005, against Bangladesh and made it a memorable one by picking up a couple of wickets off successive deliveries before missing out on a hat-trick when the ball rolled onto the stumps and did not dislodge the batsman’s bails.

He ended the match with a haul of 4/32. Having played for the England Lions in 2007 against India, and watching the Indian batsmen’s discomfit against the short ball, he made his debut against them at Lord’s after Steve Harmison pulled out due to a groin strain. He picked up four wickets in the match, and ended with 13 in the series.

Tremlett has also won the NBC Denis Compton Award in 2000 and 2001, which is given to the most promising Young Player at each of the counties.
