Was selected to make his Test debut in 1999, for Australia's tour of Sri Lanka, but suffered chicken pox. He eventually made his debut two years later against England.
Has represented Durham, Hampshire and Yorkshire in the English County Championship.
On his maiden tour, to England in 2001, after informing Katich he hadn't made the team for the Lord's Test, John Buchanan, the Australia coach, asked him to write a poem, which ended up running to about 20 verses.
