Brad Haddin's second One-day international century powered Australia to an easy six-wicket win over New Zealand in the third ODI.

Chasing 246 for victory, Australia scored 248 for 4 with 16 balls to spare to claim a 2-1 lead in the five-match Chappell-Hadlee series.

Striking the ball cleanly with some big sixes down the ground, Haddin, promoted to open the innings, also rode his luck and was dropped twice in scoring 110 from 121 deliveries.

Haddin hit seven boundaries and four sixes, delighting the appreciative crowd at Seddon Park. He beat his previous top score by one run and shared a partnership of 151 for the second wicket with skipper Ricky Ponting (69 off 71 balls).

Australia showed no sign of being unsettled by the shock departure of vice-captain Michael Clarke, who quit the tour overnight to be with troubled fiancee Lara Bingle.

The tourists lost opener Shane Watson to a run-out for 15 and Haddin and Ponting were each dropped before they reached 10. The pair scored their respective half-centuries in 51 and 52 balls respectively, making the Kiwis pay dearly. Ponting was caught at short mid-wicket off Michael Mason's bowling at 176 for 2 and Mike Hussey (9) fell three overs later.

Haddin was out stumped off Daniel Vettori's bowling at 230 for 4. Cameron White (25) and Adam Voges (13) were not out at the end.

In-form pace duo Mitchell Johnson and Ryan Harris took three wickets each to help bowl New Zealand out for 245 in 46.2 overs. The Black Caps lost their last five wickets for 32 runs.

Going into the game with a hamstring injury, Ross Taylor scored a fine 62 from 66 balls while Scott Styris (41) and Gareth Hopkins (45) also got starts.

Harris followed his 3 for 34 in Saturday's second match with 3 for 48 from seven overs. Johnson (3 for 41) picked up his eighth wicket of the series when tailender Shane Bond was caught behind for 11, setting Australia a modest target when Vettori had predicted 300 would be a par score.

The fourth match of the five-game series is in Auckland on Thursday. Australia have called up Tasmania captain George Bailey into their squad for Clarke.

Man-of-the-match Haddin said he was thrilled to be the first Australian to score a century in the series.

''It felt good. Ricky has challenged us over the last couple of days for someone to go on and get three figures,'' he said.

''All the boys at the top have been in pretty good form but we needed one of our top four to really come out and get a hundred so it was good to spend some time out there with Rick."
