Injured Mills misses first ODI
Wellington: Injury seems to be taking its toll on cricket teams throughout the world. After Australia and India, the New Zealand team is now in news for its injured players.
Ahead of their first ODI against Pakistan, the Black Caps have lost their premiere fast bowler, Kyle Mills to a shoulder injury. Mills is though expected to be back in the side from the second match.
Kiwi skipper Daniel Vettori said New Zealand will miss Mills, who is their top ranked one-day bowler.
"I think everyone knows he's the number one bowler in the world in One-day cricket so it'll be a big loss for us," Vettori was quoted as saying to The New Zealand Herald.
This injury has just aggravated New Zealand’s worries, as arriving for the series they were already without the services of opening batsman Jesse Ryder, pacer Daryl Tuffey and all-rounder Grant Elliot.
The void created by Mills may come in as a good opportunity for pacer Tim Southee to prove his recall into the squad a right decision. Vettori also hinted at going for a twin-spin attack by including off-spinner Nathan Mccullum alongside himself.
"We haven't seen the wicket yet. But we saw the history of it in the Pakistan-Australia matches (in April and May) and spinners dominated from early on so it's more than likely we'll go with two spinners and hopefully that works," Vettori said after the team arrived in Abu Dhabi.
