Shilpa’s appeal to S Africans

Johannesburg: Bollywood actress and co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals Shilpa Shetty has appealed to South Africans to come out in large numbers to support the IPL tournament starting in Cape Town on April 18.

Shetty made the appeal along with IPL chief Lalit Modi in an interview by Supersport TV at the Wanderers Cricket stadium on Friday during a Pro20 international match between Australia and South Africa.

“The IPL is the most wonderful event that involves cricket and entertainment. I want to call on the beautiful people of South Africa to turn up in their thousands for the matches,” she said, adding she will be in the country for the entire tournament when 59 matches will be played from April 18 to May 24.

Modi said that the tournament would be played in Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London, Kimberley, Bloemfontein, Johannesburg and Pretoria.

“All teams will play in all the venues in order to give the people of South Africa a chance to see them in action,” he said. He said there will be a march by all the players in Cape Town on April 16, two days before the start of the tournament on April 18.

“The IPL will have a carnival atmosphere and the people of South Africa will see something that they have not seen before,” he said.
