Ch’pion Trophy unveiled; winners to get jacket

Mumbai: The ICC Champions Trophy 2009 was officially launched on Thursday by ICC General Manager (Commercial) Campbell Jamieson.

Jamieson emphasised on the fact that the Champions Trophy was returning to its original format, a tournament that features only the top eight sides in the world.

“This ICC Champions Trophy is quite different and more exciting compared to all the ones that went before. Effectively, it is in one location with two world-class venues at The Wanderers and Centurion.

It is a short, sharp event with just the top eight-ranked ODI teams taking part in international competition. The event is all about prestige. It features the best players competing for a major ICC title with more prize money on offer than ever before with a total of US$4million at stake,” Jamieson said.

The winning team members will also be presented a designer jacket. The jacket was unveiled by South Africans Graeme Smith, Shaun Pollock and Jonty Rhodes last week.

“There will be a tailor at the Centurion ground to quickly put together a jacket for the winner,” said Jamieson.

The Champions Trophy tournament will be held between September 22 and October 5 in South Africa.
