Hyderabad: Australian captain Ricky Ponting has said he is keep to set right his dismal record in India.
In his first interaction with the media since stepping foot on Indian soil, Ponting said, "There is a bit of a void in my international career here in India, there's no doubt about that, even on the last tour when we managed to win the Test series I missed the first three Tests with a broken thumb and came back for the last one and we managed to lose that Test match, so there's hopefully a lot of runs ahead for me here."
Ponting averages a dismal 12.29 from eight Test matches in India, a far cry from his career average of 58.38.
He has been working hard, and will continue to work hard on his technique to counter the Indian spinners, with assistant coach Greg Chappell keeping a close watch on him. He said, "I'll work really hard for the next week and a bit to make sure I'm as good as I can be come first Test time and hopefully I can turn things around there, it's all in my hands, I know what I have to do to have success here.''
The Australian skipper, who is back at the helm of affairs after recovering from a wrist surgery, was dismissed for five in the warm-up match against the Rajasthan Cricket Association's Centre of Excellence team at Jaipur. He will have another change to get among the runs before the first Test on October 9, when the Australians will take on the Board Presidents' XI in a three-day tie starting October 2.
