Chennai: Gundappa Viswanath, one of the finest batsmen India has produced, has said the senior players in the Indian team - Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Anil Kumble - will know where they stand after the upcoming series against Australia.

After a combined failure of the senior players against Sri Lanka, which saw the Indians lose the Test series 2-1, many questions were asked if it was time for the seniors to pave way for a young brigade.

This was followed by the selectors dropping Sourav Ganguly from the Rest of India squad, which was seen by many as an indication to the senior players to perform or be prepared to be shown the door.

Viswanath told The Hindu, "When you play for so many years, there are bound to be some failures as well. We will have a clearer idea about where they [the senior players] stand at the end of the series."

Vishy, as he is fondly called, also said he expected the upcoming Test series to be an intriguing contest. He said, "We should witness some great cricket. They do not have Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne. But they still have a useful pace attack. Brett Lee, Stuart Clark and Mitchell Johnson can test our batsmen."
