Bangalore: Anil Kumble, the Indian captain, has said the forthcoming four-Test series against the world champions, will be India's best chance to beat them and regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
When asked if the current Australian team was vulnerable, Kumble told The Times of India, "The attack in 2004, it was different. With bowlers like McGrath and Warne around there was always quality. Having said that, this is the same attack that played us in Australia and so they will know our batsmen. But this probably is the best chance for a result in our favour and we will certainly push to ensure that."
He added that he was expecting stiff competition from the visitors - a trait that made them tough opponents. He said, "They have always had quality. Probably they have had the bowling to take 20 wickets. In terms of putting pressure on the opponents, they manage to do it whatever the conditions. Also, they have always had the batsmen to score quickly and apply pressure. When a team scores at four an over, the pressure is on you. You feel you have to catch up. That's the way they have always played. But in the last three-four series India has done well against them."
However, he said his team was prepared to challenge the might of the Australians in the forthcoming series. He said, "We are prepared. Our batsmen are experienced enough to handle any tactic. I am confident about the way we have prepared."
