Asif tested positive in drug test in IPL
Monday: The DLF Indian Premier League has taken the next steps after the report of an adverse analytical finding (AAF) from the recently concluded DLF Indian Premier League 2008.
The DLF Indian Premier League compared the result from the WADA-approved laboratory in Switzerland with the data collected by IDTM, the Sweden based independent agency which organised the anti-doping testing in accordance with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) standards, to confirm the player in violation is Mohammad Asif.
It was also checked if Asif had applied for and was granted a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). It was found that Asif had not applied for a TUE. A note in writing has been sent to the player and his home board and to the franchisee on the findings.
Asif has been informed that:
- The Specimen supplied by him has revealed an Adverse Analytical Finding;
- The above-mentioned Adverse Analytical Finding constitutes a violation of paragraph 3.1.1 and/or 3.1.2 and/or 3.2 of the Code (subject, if appropriate, to the analysis of the B Sample);
- He has the right to request that the B Sample (supplied by him at the same time as the A Sample which has revealed said Adverse Analytical Finding) be analyzed.
- If he requests that said B Sample be analysed, he and his representative along with an IPL representative will have the right to attend the opening and analysis of it;
Once the results of the same are obtained, it will be referred to the IPL Drug Tribunal. The Tribunal consists Dr Ravi Bapat (ex Vice Chancellor of MUHS), Sunil Gavaskar, and Shirish Gupte, a lawyer.
The Tribunal will in due course follow the procedure as laid down in the Anti-Doping policy.
