Here’s the summary of day-one of the Ranji Trophy Super League round-3

Group A

Himachal Pradesh 100 for 3 (Thakkar 48*, Harmeet 2-17) trail Mumbai 162 (Agarkar 45, Malik 6-33) by 2 runs

The cyclone named Vikramjeet Singh proved too powerful even for the strong Mumbai batting line-up. The right-arm seamer wrecked havoc in the Mumbai camp, his six wickets left the defending champions in tatters at the BKC Cricket stadium in Mumbai. If it wasn’t for the 53-run stand for the ninth wicket between Ajit Agarkar (45) and Dhawal Kulkarni (28), Mumbai would have been bundled out for less than 150. HP finished the day with 100 for 3 with Bhavin Thakkar unbeaten on 48.

Railways 176 for 4 (Cheluvaraj 72*) v Orissa

After being put in to bat by Orissa at Bhubaneshwar, Railways managed to drag the first day through with 176 on the board for the loss of four batsmen. Opener Vairamudi Cheluvaraj showed undeterred resilience, grinding hard for 248 balls for his 72 runs. After a steady opening stand of 53 between him and Faiz Fazal (32), the parsimonious Orissa bowlers dented Railways’ progress with regular wickets.

Punjab 212 for 7 (Dharmani 74*) v Tamil Nadu

A toiling effort of veteran batsman Pankaj Dharmani saved Punjab the blushes of embarrassment against Tamil Nadu in Amritsar. Dharmani forged crucial partnerships with Madan, Kakkar and Gambhir to take Punjab past 200.

Hyderabad 175 for 5 (Rayudu 60, Quadri 51, Trivedi 4-30) v Gujarat

Hyderabad struggled in the rain-marred contest against Gujarat as fast bowler Siddharth Trivedi struck them like a lightning, accounting for four out of the five batsmen they lost on day-one. Half centuries from Ambati Rayadu and Syed Quadri prevented more damage for the hosts and with Quadri still at the crease with Anirudh Singh on 34, they would look to build on the score on day-two.

Group B

Saurashtra 236 for 2 (Pathak 90, Kotak 85*, Pujara 52) v Maharashtra

Saurashtra batsmen displayed solid intent against Maharashtra in Rajkot to take their first day score to 236, losing openers, Chirag Pathak and Sagar Jogiyani. Pathak unfortunately missed out on a hundred by 10 runs and fell after putting up a 127-run stand with Sitanshu Kotak for the second wicket. Kotak, who is batting on 15 runs short of his century with Cheteshwar Pujara on 52 will look to build a dominating total on day-two.

Bengal 252 for 5 (Banerjee 107, Tiwary 78) v Karnataka

After Rohan Bannerjee and Manoj Tiwary held the Bengal batting together with a 172-run stand for the third wicket, Karnataka struck back into the game when Amit Verma removed Banerjee for 197. While Sreesanth Aravind removed Arindam Das and Deep Dasgupta early on, Sunil Joshi returned to scalp the wicket of Tiwary. Wriddhiman Saha (3) and Shibsagar Singh (1) are the two not-out batsmen.

The match between Uttar Pradesh and Baroda in Ghaziabad was called off for the first day due to rain.
