Amol Muzumdar Interview - 'I am not done yet'

Mumbai: Life has come full circle for Amol Muzumdar after he was dropped from the Mumbai XI in the Ranji Trophy final. Two years back he led Mumbai to their 37th Ranji Trophy, beating Sourav Ganguly's Bengal and when his team is locking horns with Uttar Pradesh he is warming the benches.

Regarded as one of the pillars of Mumbai batting, Muzumdar found his exclusion 'hard to swallow’ but is still in his usual self- calm and composed. In an exclusive interview with cricketnirvana.com, former Mumbai captain expressed his disappointment but vowed to bounce back.

''Yes, it is disappointing not to find a place in the team. To be honest I am sad. I think this is the best combination for Mumbai to take field. I accept the team management’s decision,’’ said Muzumdar.

On being asked about being dropped when he required 31 runs to set a new Ranji record, the middle-order batsman said, “I am still not done yet. And frankly speaking I don’t think on those lines. Things which are not meant to be, won't happen.”

When asked about his future plans and playing next Ranji season, he said: “I don't know what is going to happen and I will see what is in store for me. I am a very positive person and I live in present so I don’t think too much about the records and future.”

“I did not felt hard done by the decision. Although it was hard to swallow when Wasim Jaffer and Pravin Amre announced their decision to me but I told myself that I have to live with it.”

About his team’s performance in the final, Muzumdar said that Mumbai has the advantage at the end of Day two. “I think the wicket of Mohammad Kaif could prove to be the turning point. The morning session will be important and if we are able to get a couple of wickets then no doubt we are going to make it No 38 (Mumbai has won Ranji Trophy 37 times).’’
