An unheard of coincidence!

A unique coincidence in ODIs took place today (September 5) in 1999. India’s flamboyant opener Sadagoppan Ramesh and West Indies’ opener Wavell Hinds both took a wicket with their very first delivery in ODI cricket.

It was a game between India and West Indies at the Kallang Ground in Singapore. It was the third game of the Singapore Challenge tournament.

Ramesh, bowling his off-breaks claimed the wicket of Nixon McLean whereas Hinds who has always proven to be a useful medium pacer for the West Indies, claimed the wicket of India wicketkeeper batsman MSK Prasad.

Ramesh and Hinds were the sixth and seventh players in the history of the sport to perform this feat (out of a total of eight). This was also the first instance of two players performing this feat in the same match. It was Hinds' debut in ODIs, and the first time Ramesh bowled in a ODI, having made his debut earlier.

Ramesh finished with figures of 1-23 from his three-over spell and Hindis 1-6 from just the solitary over. West Indies went on to win the low-scoring tie.
