Cricketing greats hail Tendulkar

Gaurav Saxena

Some of the finest cricketers who played the sport react to Sachin Tendulkar’s monumental effort of surpassing Brian Lara’s world record for most number of runs in Test cricket on Friday against the Australians at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.

‘Great day for Tendulkar and India. I have no doubt that he is the greatest cricketer ever produced by India. I saw him as a 16-year-old in Pakistan and I knew that this boy will go to become a great cricketer. Lara is one of the greatest but Sachin is more consistent. I think watching him bats is a pleasure.’

- Zaheer Abbas, former Pakistan captain and legendary batsman.

‘I congratulate him for breaking Lara’s record. Sachin is one of the greatest batsman of all times. He adds value to cricket. I have played against him and I know he is the hardest batsman to bowl at. Sachin is a perfect role model for youngsters and I wish him all the best.’

Muttiah Muralidaran, Sri Lankan off spinner and leading Test wicket-taker

‘Great achievement. I always admire Sachin’s technique and his ability to succeed on all sorts of surfaces. He has been going on and on. I wish him all the best.’

Waqar Younis, former Pakistan captain and fast bowler

‘He is the best player I have played against. Tendulkar deserves the best. He has been exceptional throughout his career. I congratulate him on this great feat.’

Darren Lehmann, former Australian batsman
