1- Played the Innings of the series - 319 at Chennai

2- Intentions were clear, i.e to be aggressive all the way

3- Turned the tide of the series with crucial wickets

4- Troubled South Africa’s key batsmen with his drift and turn

After the poor run in the CB series in Australia, his place in the side came under the scanner. South Africa were off to a blazing start in the series piling 540 runs in the very first innings. In reply, Virender Sehwag slashed and bashed the bowling to record the fastest triple hundred ever in Test cricket. Attack, attack and attack – was his game plan. No matter what the situation was, he just went after the bowling right from the word go.

Apart from his batting, his part-time offies were a handful. He looked more dangerous than Harbhajan on day 3 of the last Test match in Kanpur. The South Africans were unable to go after him and were stuck in the crease by the bounce and spin he derived from the pitch. Bowling G Smith around his legs was the wicket that made the Indians believe they could win the Test and level the series.
